Hello all,

I last wrote to you about my internship with the Neighborhood Design Center, but I am now working as a co-op with a local Landscape Architecture firm here in Columbus, Kinzelman Kline Gossman, LLC.

My co-op is a year long, so I will be enjoying our offices in the Brewery District until I go back for my last quarter in January of 2011.

At work, I help on various types of projects doing different tasks. Sometimes I will work on drawing in autocad, presentations in InDesign, or renderings in Photoshop.

My favorite experience so far was when I worked on a project with a local church. Before even starting the design of the site, we were able to have meetings with the church’s counsel to do experiential planning – which is an important step in developing a design. From our meetings we found that the clients really wanted a space that fostered personal relationships, and was welcoming to those outside of the church. From here, we took the social and spiritual motives to create the physical design.

However, as much as I love my co-op, I will be taking a month-long break for a landscape internship in Geneva, Switzerland this summer. It is through the U.S. Mission and the ASLA. Hopefully by the time I get back I will have figured out how to post pictures, because I’ve heard Switzerland is a gorgeous place!

…but not until the rain delay is finished. There really are very few downsides to my internship with Athletics Communications, but one of them would have to be sporadic work hours on weekends. I’m going to be at the ballpark for a majority of my Sunday afternoon, which wouldn’t be too bad if it weren’t for the mountain of homework looming at my desk at home. Oops.

It’s hard to believe that I’m already halfway done with my internship here at the station…It’s definitely been an unforgettable experience so far, but today I want to talk about one of my favorite days here..Cold Cut Tuesdays.  A typical Tuesday goes like this: I come in around 3 o’clock with another intern, Liz, and work on picking out the best high school football games around that state for a show that airs on Thursdays.  Right around the time we finish this show, we go out with a photo-journalist to OSU’s team practice to get player interviews for various shows throughout the week. One of WBNS’s anchors, Dom Tiberi, also makes the trip to player interviews with us, and it has been great getting to know him and the other anchors, and see how they all do things differently.  One of the most unique traditions that we’ve adapted every Tuesday, however, is heading back to the station around suppertime, and meeting Dom back here for cold-cut sandwiches consisting of what he assures us is the healthiest of lunchmeats-genoa salami and ham.  He returns to the station as the analysts for Tuesday’s show, Buckeye Blitz, are beginning to arrive, and is sure to ask everyone if they want a coldcut sandwich.  This hour has become a time we all look forward to each week, with everyone hanging out with a sandwich, casually talking about the week in sports.

On football saturdays all the students are expected to be at the press box 3 hours prior to kickoff. That means I’ll be getting up around 7:30. Joy. But I’m pretty excited that I’ll be doing spotting for television/radio tomorrow. I’ve never done it before so I’m pretty pumped to see how things go.

Hey guys…well this officially my first blog, so here we go…

This quarter I am doing my first internship, and it is with WBNS Channel 10/ONN here in downtown Columbus.  The experience has been great-I would reccommend this as a great internship for anyone who wants to go into Broadcasting-either in front of the camera OR behind the scenes.  My internship deals specifically with the sports department.   Tuesdays, I go in and edit footage from the previous weekend’s college and NFL football games, and run teleprompter for ONN’s show “Buckeye Blitz”.  If I have extra time on Tuesdays, I also go through and pick out the top 3-4 games from all 24 regions in Ohio for the upcoming high school football Friday, to be used on Thursday’s show, “High School Sport Site”.  Thursday is my slow day at the internship-I usually create graphics that include helmets, teams, and records for all the high school matchups that we dicuss on “High School Sport Site”, and then I once again run prompter for the show at 8:00.  Friday is my busiest day-I usually go in around 3 to go out with the reporters and cover walk-throughs of the opposing team at Ohio Stadium (if we have a home football game), and after that we go out and cover 2 different high school football games.  At each game I keep track of all of the stats and times that big plays happen, so that when we go back to the studio at 10:45 and only have 15 minutes to edit, we already know where the best clips are on the tape.  That’s a brief overview of the internship, but exciting and unpredictable things happen every week, so I’ll be sure to keep you guys up to date from week-to-week
