About Project Groups

Web 1

Web 1 is designed to teach students that have little, or even no, web experience and teach them, step by step, how to create and build a website using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver.

Web 2 ASP

Web 2 ASP group takes students that have a background in web design and teaches them ASP.net, using Microsoft Visual Web Developer, as well as database development for websites.
ASP stands for Active Server Pages and is a similar language to PHP except it was create for websites using Microsoft server technology. As with PHP, it is an extremely valuable skill to have.

Web 2 PHP

PHP is a computer scripiting language used for creating dynamic web pages that can be used to create online forms. Knowledge and skill with this language is very much in demand in the web design world.

Web 2 CSS

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets, which is the stylesheet language used in most web sites today. Many of the students in this group plan to go into web design as a career option.

Video

The video production project group gives students the chance to create their own 5-10 minutes movie. Student pairs create a 3 act plot, write dialogue and decide on the video shots. After they finish shooting(cameras are applied), students can edit their footage using a number of different editing programs depending on their level of experience.

Graphics and Layout

In the Graphics project group, students can learn the basics of design using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.

For Layout, students are broken into groups of 6-7 and they have the chance to create their own magazine. Students first decide on the theme of the magazine and then they decide on the content. The process begins by setting deadlines and selecting writers, layout designers and an editor.

Photography

In photography group, students will learn how to improve their photographic technique and learn how to compose better pictures.

3D Modeling/Animation

In this group, students can learn the basics of creating 3D images using programs like Lightwave and Maya.

The Animation project group is for students that have already had some background with 3D modeling(Maya, 3D Studio Max) and are ready to add movement to their image.

Protools

Protools is the state-of-the-art software used in recording studios all over the world. Students in this group have access to microphones and recording equipment that allows them to compose and record their own music.

Fruity Loops

Fruity Loops is a “remixing” program that allows even first timers to create songs using pre-recorded beats. Students in this group can also learn how to use Virtual DJ, a program that mixes songs like a turntable.

Flash

Flash is used for much of the animation seen on websites. For students in the Flash 1 group, no experience is required to learn the basics. Students in Flash 2 however, will have the chance to new techniques that will allow them to create very complex websites.
